Quoted from their development home page:
Welcome to Danger
Thank you for your interest in the Danger developer program. From the very beginning, we designed the hiptop platform to enable great software built by an active developer community. We're very excited to open our developer program and get the hiptop software development kit out into the world.
The hiptop SDK is available free to anyone who provides a valid e-mail address, postal address, and phone number. We ask for these because joining the program requires a legal agreement between you and us. If you don't want to provide this information, you're still welcome to download and study the SDK documentation.
The developer program provides access to a developer version of Danger's backend service. Because this service has limited capacity, we have to monitor access to it, and so it's not automatically open to all developers. You can get access to the service in either of two ways: you create an example hiptop application that makes use of the service and send e-mail describing it to us, or you are employed by a company that develops software for handheld devices or mobile phones.
Here's a summary of the developer program levels and benefits:
Registered (level 0)
What you get: access to documentation, tech notes, and forums (read-only).
How to qualify: register for the developer program with a functional e-mail address.
Verified (level 1)
What you get: SDK with hiptop simulator, full access to forums.
How to qualify
- be a level 0 developer
- provide a verifiable postal address and phone number.
Connected (level 2)
What you get: SDK with device download tools, access to developer backend service.
How to qualify
- already be a level 1 developer.
EITHER
be employed by a company actively engaged in development for handheld devices or mobile phones.
OR
develop an application that makes use of the service and contact us at developer@danger.com
Danger reserves the right to change or redefine the Developer Levels at any time and without notice. Danger also reserves the right to deny or revoke membership to any developer, at any time, without giving reason or cause. All program participants, including Interested Developers, will be bound by a non-disclosure agreement (NDA). Violation of this NDA is a breach of contract and is grounds for revocation of membership as well as possible legal action.

So, planning on dumping all the info on a web server in the middle of Outer Slobovia somewhere as soon as you make Level 2?

I'm just waiting for a download mechanism, myself - Employees at Danger have written both a Infocom Z-Machine interpreter and a Telnet/SSH client for the hiptop, and I can't wait to use 'em.
Thanks for making me a God Of Slashdot!
